ELF ARRIVAL!
A package arrived for our class all the way from the North Pole!
When we opened it, we found an Elf from Santa!

There was also a book explaining that we had to give the Elf a name right away.  The book said our elf would go back to the North Pole every night to give Santa a report on our behavior.

The boys and girls decided to name him "Elfie" and we put him on a shelf so he could watch us.

What we didn't know is that Elfie would be causing lots of problems in our room!

What a mess we found when we got back from the lunchroom the next day!

In fact, Elfie has gotten into trouble almost every day since we got him.

We hope he is learning something about good behavior from us!

First Grade Celebrates Red Ribbon Week

We all enjoyed dress-up days during Red Ribbon Week.  Crazy sock day was our favorite!

What a funny bunch of kids!

Jack-O-Lantern Patch

Our Halloween Jack-O-Lantern Art Project was lots of fun!  We started by cutting out our pumpkin shape and painting it.

Next we added our faces.

Stems and leaves came next.

 What hard workers!

And finally.......

Our Jack-o-lantern patch!

Farm Day

Farm Day at APS

What a great time we had learning about all the farm animals!

This sheep was very soft.

We loved watching the baby piglets sleeping in the sun.

We found out this big bull is only 2 years old....

and this goat is still a baby.

We practiced our tractor driving skills!

We took turns milking a cow!

This donkey was making a lot of noise!

We all wanted to pet the horse.

We liked this fancy-looking chicken!

We all got to pet baby chicks.

We had a great day at the farm!
Thank you Albertville FFA for bringing Farm Day to APS!

We enjoyed a special treat when our grandparents came to visit last week.
There were big smiles all around!

We showed our grandparents our favorite places.....first was the playground!

We took them to the book fair in the library...

 to the lunchroom...

and finally to the refreshment table!

Everybody made special pictures and cards to give to some
pretty special people - Our Grandparents!

Watermelon Fun!

We had a blast learning with watermelons last week. Check out our pictures!

Here we are eating yummy watermelon!

Sweet kids!

We loved the watermelon so much that most of us ate seconds and thirds!

Not only did we enjoy eating the watermelon, we also saved the seeds to use with math. Here we are cleaning the seeds and setting them out to dry.

Next we counted all the seeds together and discovered that we had over 300 seeds!

While the seeds were drying, we painted watermelon slices. When everything was dry, we used the seeds to count and create math problems.

We're hard at work!

After creating addition sentences, we glued the seeds on the watermelon slices
 to represent our problems.

The end result: A yummy learning experience for all!!!
